On February 8, 2023, the U.S. government put up a $10 million reward for any information on Aleksandr Ionov, the Russian national who the FBI claims is the reason they attacked Uhuru Movement members’ homes and offices on July 29, 2022.
In the early morning hours of July 29, heavily armed FBI troops raided the homes of African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) Chairman Omali Yeshitela, APSP Deputy Chair Ona Zené Yeshitela, APSP Director of Media and Communications Akilé Anai, African People’s Solidarity Committee Chair Penny Hess and Uhuru Solidarity Movement Chair Jesse Nevel as well as Party and movement offices in St. Louis, Missouri and St. Petersburg, Florida.
This $10 million reward they’ve put up is a sign of desperation. After busting down the doors of our offices, stealing cell phones, hard drives, files and other archives that they still haven’t returned, this reward exposes one thing—they ain’t got nothing!
The charge that the Uhuru Movement—which has been building independent African economic power, charging the U.S. government with genocide against our people and fighting for African freedom since the 1960s—is just doing all this because some Russians told us to was bogus from the start. Not to mention that it’s arrogant and racist to think that African people can’t see the U.S. government’s attacks on us unless some white person tells us.
We know that these attacks are a sign of desperation. This attempt to neutralize our African revolutionary leadership is part of this dying, increasingly isolated imperialist power scrambling to try to rescue itself from its crisis. This multi-million dollar reward offer is just a sign of that. They may try to put our leaders on trial for fighting for our freedom, but we will put the State on trial!
