To the African People’s Socialist Party:
We are writing to express our solidarity with the African People’s Socialist Party; its chairman, Omali Yeshitela; and all its members at this time of vicious attack by the U.S. government. As Chairman Yeshitela has rightly stated, the APSP has the right to develop relationships with peoples, institutions and governments anywhere in the world, despite Washington’s attempts to dictate who it may have as friends and who it must consider its enemies.
In a similar way, the Republic of Mali in West Africa, under attack by right-wing extremists, is being criticized for rejecting a continuing role for the former colonial power, France, and instead accepting support from Russia, which has never colonized the Continent.
The Odessa Solidarity Campaign, based in Richmond, Virginia, has been opposing U.S. aggression in Ukraine since 2016, when we traveled to the Black Sea city of Odessa to stand with the anti-fascist people of that city as they marked the second anniversary of the Odessa Massacre of May 2, 2014, a memorial that was being threatened by neo-Nazi organizations. We also have been accused of being pawns of the Russian government for our continuing work in exposing the role of the U.S. and NATO in provoking the present war in Ukraine.
We view the attack on APSP as an attack on the entire anti-imperialist movement and call on all progressive, left and revolutionary organizations to close ranks in support. Please let us know what we can do to support you at this time.
In Solidarity,
