IFCO / Pastors for Peace denounces FBI attack on African People’s Socialist Party

Statement from the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO) / Pastors for Peace

Uhuru means freedom in Swahili and it is the call that friends of the African People’s Socialist Party make throughout their struggle for a better world. On July 13, 2022,members of IFCO/Pastors for Peace sat with comrades from the African People’s Socialist Party and Uhuru Movement on their Black Power Radio Station 96.3fm, to talk about the 30th anniversary of the Friendshipment Caravan and our long standing support for the Cuban revolution that has given so much to people all over the world.

One thing is clear about the work our friends are doing in St. Petersburg, St. Louis, Huntsville, Philadelphia, Oakland, Sierra Leone, South Africa and elsewhere, they are uplifting and empowering the dispossessed and disenfranchised and they are doing it block by block for the people and by the people.

The recent news of the FBI raid on the APSP headquarters and solidarity office as well as their leaders in St Petersburg and St Louis is appalling. It is an egregious reminder of more than a century of attacks against the Black Liberation Movement for freedom and the current growing Fascist response of the United States government towards anyone who dares to think differently. We at IFCO/Pastors for Peace know all too well the danger of that attack especially when it is linked to sovereign and independent nations.

Today it is APSP, but tomorrow it could be any of us because we are friends of Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Mali, Nicaragua and so on. History has shown us the ploys of the FBI which have been unleashed for decades upon our communities and leaders. We know how these intimidations have resulted in family disruptions, sabotage, imprisonment of movement leaders and state assassinations.

We denounce the attack on the APSP, demand justice, and a return of all of the organization’s illegally seized technology and personal effects immediately.
